Magaliesburg Koesterfontein Landscape Sunset Quartzite Ridge

It would look better as an open-cast mine … NOT !!! This is one of the striking quartzite ridges in the beautiful valley of Koesterfontein in Magaliesburg at Sunset. This valley along with several thousand hectares of neighbouring farmlands is facing a dire mining threat.

A picture speaks a thousand words as they say. This Sunset Landscape Photo is of the magnificent Quartzite Ridges of Magaliesburg in the valley of Koesterfontein in Magaliesburg.

The Koesterfontein Valley along with neighbouring Golden Valley form a substantial river catchment called the Blaauwbank which covers an area well over 100 sq km. This catchment leads into the Magalies River which then flows all the way to Hartebeespoort dam providing essential water for thousands of people along the way.

The quartzite ridges of Magaliesburg made for a great foreground subject at sunset yesterday and these Quartzite Ridges should be protected for generations to come.

  1. These mining companies should feel ashamed of themselves when they look at a photo like this. What a beautiful area.
